Holibobs Holidays

Holiday Gallery

As a charity we wanted to dedicate this section of our Holiday page to to the courageous children and families we have helped, who will continue to be our motivation. It is our own experiences of childhood cancer and the stories of the families we have met along the way that have motivated us to want to help others in the same circumstances. Here are some images of the children we have helped enjoying their holiday wishes and the smiles on their faces mean everything.

We would like to thank each and every person that has contributed to making these holidays wishes come true.

How Holibobs Holidays Help?

For a child fighting cancer, life can become limited to home and hospital in a very short space of time! Days become filled with endless medical appointments, gruelling and frightening treatments regimes and long periods away from friends and the normal care free childhood they should be having. Time away with their family can break this cycle, even if only for a short time, providing precious time together away from the illness making magical memories to be treasured forever.

Here are some of the quotes we have received from families we have helped, showing what a difference the holiday provided by Holibobs has made:

“A huge thank you to Holibobs Charity for our most recent trip to Bluestone… I believe that I and my 9 month old daughter really benefited from the break and it was so lovely to switch off knowing that everything was arranged and taken care of for us”

“We had the best time and were the happiest I can remember us being in a long time!”

“Overall it really gave all of us time to relax together, have some fun and make some lovely memories. To receive such generosity is unbelievable and we as a family are so grateful to your charity and indeed everyone that contributes to it.”

“We wanted to say thank you for such a wonderful Christmassy week. After such an awful Christmas last year it was so nice to start this year off in such a lovely way and the extra’s you have booked for us were very thoughtful and much appreciated!”

“Huge thanks to Holibobs for organising a trip for us to Centre Parcs. We had an amazing time and its things like this that help us to create special and lasting memories. It also allows us a break from the day to day stresses of the whole situation.”

Holiday Eligibility

Holibobs provides holidays to children and young adults diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia up to the age of 19, living in Wales. Each request needs to be approved by the child’s consultant and include the details of the child’s social worker and specialist nurse.

On receipt of a holiday request, the child’s social worker or specialist nurse will be contacted to verify eligibility and then we will contact the family to find out more about the child, the family and their holiday wish.

Holiday's for the Whole Famliy

We know that when a child is diagnosed with cancer the whole family are affected. The family unit that once was gets separated in two as one parent stays with the unwell child in hospital leaving the other at home to pick up the pieces and play the role of both mum and dad. Siblings, in particular, although supported are required to carry on as normal, going to school and keeping up other activities, even though their normal world has disappeared.

Our mission at Holibobs is to provide a child with a holiday wish but to hopefully help all members of the family by bringing the family unit back together again, providing them with precious time together. We aim to make a fuss of every child in the family and the donations that we receive will not only go towards the holiday but when we can something special for each child.

Types of Holiday's Granted

Since establishing Holibobs in September 2018, we have organised many holidays to numerous holiday destinations within the UK. For those families and children after some inspiration, examples of Holiday wishes granted include:

  • Lodge holidays including trips to Bluestone and Centre Parcs
  • Theme park holidays including Peppa Pig, Alton Towers and Chessington World of Adventure
  • Cottage Holidays: in the countryside, close to the beach, with a hot tub…
  • Stays in a treehouse
  • More unusual stays, such as in railway carriages, vintage vans, yurts, safari lodges etc
  • Camper vans and Motor homes

What is important is that the holiday reflects the child’s interests and is something that would make a real difference to them, providing wonderful memories for all. Do they...

  • Love trains and railways?
  • Large, open spaces to explore and go bug hunting?
  • Like building sandcastles on the beach and going crab hunting?
  • Love Peppa Pig or Thomas the Tank Engine?
  • Like adventure, such as high ropes or zip wiring?
  • Love arts and crafts and creativity?

Tell us about them! Give us ideas and let us work our magic.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Who is eligible for a holiday?

Holibobs provides holidays to children and young adults diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia up to the age of 19 living in Wales.

We aim to fulfil as many holiday wishes as possible however every holiday is dependent upon the funding we have available.  We are a newly established charity, as of September 2018 so may not be in a position at the moment to satisfy every request although this would be our ultimate goal.

  • How do I apply for a holiday?

If you are a social worker or health professional specialising in children’s oncology and you know of a child or young adult who you believe deserves a holiday wish, then please get in touch using one of the contact methods below.

    info@holibobscharity.org.uk

All applications for a holiday must be accompanied by a letter from a consultant or social worker specifying the child’s medical condition.

  • Who can come on holiday?

The holidays that we provide will be for the ill child and their immediate family.  If the child is part of a one parent family then we will also pay the cost of another accompanying adult to help.

  • Are there restrictions on holidays offered?

We are a newly formed charity, registered with the charity commission in September 2018, and for the moment can only fulfil wishes to destinations within the UK.

The destination and timing of each holiday must also be approved by the Child’s consultant to ensure that it will not affect the child’s treatment protocol or any other concerns they may have.

  • Does the family have to pay for the Holiday?

No. The cost of the holiday will be fully covered by Holibobs, including travel insurance if required. The family would need to be able to cover the cost of the spending money needed whilst on the holiday.

  • Does the family have to book the holiday?

No. All arrangements for the holiday will be made by Holibobs taking the stress of organising away from the family.  Our objective is to make this as easy as possible for the families we support.
